This year’s Northern Nightscapes Calendar includes images from Cook County, Minnesota. All the images were created in the darkest county in Minnesota which contains an area as dark as the darkest places in the world. I love the night sky in Cook County and it is a compelling reason to live here.
Like all beautiful and wonderful things in this world, the dark sky in Cook County is under threat from development. The new blue/white LEDs are being installed across the county and those style of lights not only create more light pollution with all else being equal (usually these lights end up being brighter as well), but they increase our risks to several diseases.
But, the sky is still dark in the county and we can celebrate that darkness with these pictures. I hope you enjoy.
