Tonight’s sunset was one of those once in a month sunsets that just blow you away…and I left my real camera at home because I felt like I needed a day off from work. We went out to get pizza at Syndey’s in Grand Marais and noticed that sky changing color. After getting frozen custard with blueberries and Oreo cookies in it, we drove to the dog pound area just to watch the sunset.
I had my Nikon AW1 point and shoot with me and took this image with it. I think there are at least two types of ways to make photos: visionary photography and journalistic photography. When people say, equipment doesn’t matter, because a good photographer can make a good photo with whatever type of camera equipment they have with them, they’re talking about journalistic photography. That’s what this picture is. Had I had my real camera with me, I would have made something closer to my vision.
The sun pillar was so amazing — perhaps the best I’ve seen this year — and the waves were sweet, too.
