May Moonrise over the Grand Marais Lighthouse

The Full Flower Moon rose over the Grand Marais lighthouse and Lake Superior last night. At first, because of a low hanging haze or clouds on the horizon, the moon wasn’t visible, but just before this picture, it started to break out of the clouds and was visible for about a half hour before it went behind clouds.

I’ve been trying to shoot the full moon each month this year, and thought that I was going to get skunked this month, and wasn’t even sure when I went down that I was going to see it. Sometimes, you just need to show up to get the shot even if the conditions don’t seem like they’re going to be perfect.
