On May Day of 2016, the night sky exploded with a display of northern lights in northern Minnesota near Grand Marais. The best part of the display happened early around 9:30 to 10:30pm. Luckily, I was already in the field with a group of students and we all captured pictures of the northern lights. I love this lake and it had recently went ice out. The open water reflected the greens of the northern lights.
