Horsetail and Dew

This picture of horsetail (also called snake grass and puzzlegrass or scouring-rush) was taken on Mink Lake at sunrise. This grass is considered a living fossil and evolved around 400 million years ago. Some consider it medicine when prepared correctly and used as a tea or in a pill, but my favorite useage is as sandpaper. It has a high silica content which makes it abrasive and when prepared properly, it can make a nice abrasive for fine finishing woodwork.
