The clouds have just been awesome lately. This one required playing a little waiting game. I waited next to Lake Superior and the Grand Marais lighthouse for the Hjordis to come in. The Hjordis is a schooner that the North House Folk School runs sailing trips off of. It came in just as the only color that was going to appear appeared.
This one was a hard one to shoot. I ended up using a split 3-stop soft nd grad across part of the scene to darken it so that its tone would come down to match the rest of the scene. And, I shot it using the expose to the right method of exposure to capture as much detail as I could from my sensor. There are a good amount of darkroom dodges going on as well and I pushed the exposure almost a full stop to lighten the image. It was some of the toughest lighting that I’ve shot in lately.
