Yesterday before sunrise I drove up near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to shoot the sunrise. I brought my Northstar Phoenix canoe with me. Once at the portage into the river I wanted to visit, I shouldered my canoe and bit my lip as the cold from the aluminum gunwales covered with frost nipped at my skin. When I arrived at the entry point, I could just make out fog on the river under the stars. I waited an hour in the sub-freezing temps for the sun to light up the sky. When I first arrived, there were no clouds in the sky, but just before sunrise a bank blew in from the north and made for a great sunrise. After sunrise, I paddled off down the shore. On the way back, I made this selfie.
