I call this one “The Coming Storm.” I was watching a storm roll in over the Cascade River on The Grade, which is near Grand Marais and the Boundary Waters. These fantastic clouds pushed in just as it was getting dark and the lightning was bright enough on the horizon to light it up. The waxing gibbous moon was out behind me and helping to light up the ground.
I haven’t been shooting much this summer, because I’ve been busy with a house remodel and kayak guiding. Luckily, I had a one-on-one workshop scheduled for the day of this storm. After the workshop was over, I stayed out to shoot the storm. It was fantastic (minus the mosquitoes — Holy Cow! They’re bad this year).
