Grand Marais Shoreline at Dusk
Lake Superior waves roll into a rock slot. A long exposure makes the water look like clouds. Grand Marais, Minnesota. 110302-52
It was cold and windy and I almost skipped heading to the shore, but about 20 minutes before sunset, I decided to head down. I went to a location that I’ve shot many times before and worked out this composition. It took lots of pictures to get the perfect water flow pattern — I needed a larger wave to push foam up into the slot. Eventually, I got one. Eight shots after this one my battery died. It was so cold, windy and I wasn’t wearing the right clothing, so I bagged the day. I was pretty happy when I saw this wave pattern on the computer.
