The full moon rises over Lake Superior at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, Minnesota.
I drove down to Split Rock Lighthouse yesterday to watch and photograph the moonrise over Lake Superior (today would be the better day to get the shot, but it’s overcast and I knew it would be). The clear, crisp air and evening glow from the sunset cast a nice golden glow on the lighthouse and the cliffs of Stony Point below. There was a bit of pancake ice in the foreground trapped at the back of Little Two Harbors and Ellingson Island dropped into the shade exactly at the right time to make this shot. Everything lined up perfectly as my research told me it would (the ice was a bonus).
