The sunset reflects on Two Island Lake in the late summer. Reeds and lily pads float on its calm surface. Cook County, Minnesota.
This was one of those sunsets that you die for. It was cloudy all afternoon and it even rained, but about 30 minutes before the sunset, the sky started to clear. I reached Two Island Lake just before the colors started and bushwhacked through the woods to get to the corner of the lake. I waded out, balancing on logs to avoid sinking into the muck. After I got into position, I waited for the waves that I created to disappear and then set up this shot. The color hung on long enough to do several different compositions, but this is my favorite.
In the morning, I processed the image and actually had to tone down the saturation in the oranges, because the horizon orange was so vivid it was hard to believe.
