The Milky Way above The Rock and Lake Superior. The quarter moon rises.
The last few years water levels have been low, but we’re currently about 5 inches above our long term average, which made The Rock into an island; it’s usually connected to shore. I timed my arrival, so that I could get the Milky Way without the moon in it, and then capture the Milky Way, The Rock and moonrise.
Watching the moon rise was a treat and I stopped shooting to watch the quarter moon rise above the water. As it did a mirage caused it to distort and change shape. When it’s this dark, it’s impossible to capture detail in the moon, so I made sure to get the Milky Way and just let the moon glow.
