Good morning from the great cold northland of Grand Marais. Last year at about this time, I dreamed up this picture, because I knew the Milky Way would be in exactly the right place from the right overlook on the new moon of September, but I wasn’t able to get the shot for various reasons, including weather. So, this year, I went out and got the shot.
I sat on this shot for two weeks waiting for the conditions to disappear, because it’s one of those shots that once other photographers see that it’s possible, they’ll go and try to get it. I don’t mind that, but it’s nice to get a shot that the conditions only setup for during one month of the year. I’m sure next month, it will be possible to get a similar shot, but not with the perfect angle of this one.
