Dang. Lake Superior was choppy on this day. The light in the lighthouse is 48 feet above the normal water level. Spray from the crashing waves was well above the lighthouse at times.
Grand Marais, Minnesota.
Just a note: one of the biggest waves that I saw started breaking as it entered the harbor’s mouth. The water depth there is about 23 feet. Waves start to break at a water depth about 1.3 times its height. So, my estimate was 18 feet or so. That was a really big set of three sisters — three big waves in a row.
