The sunsets over Lake Superior near Grand Marais. The Sawtooth Mountains are in the distance. Cook County, Minnesota.
Yesterday afternoon, I went kayaking out on Lake Superior. The waves were building to about two feet and I was paddling around the rocks, through slots and generally having fun. At one point, someone yelled at me to see if I was okay, because I was rolling for fun in the breaking waves behind a rock. While paddling, I noticed that the clouds were setting up to make color appear over the big lake, so after I finished kayaking I drove home, got my camera and came back for sunset.
I’m glad I returned for the sunset, because it was a good one! My goal is to always try and get one good sunset, but if I nail one early, then I try to get at least two more comps. I got this one early on and then got three more comps that I like from completely different areas. That’s a good night of photography!
