The first signs of ice out on Two Island Lake near Grand Marais, Minnesota in the Superior National Forest, Cook County.
This sunset was one of those sunsets that makes me grateful that I got out of the house to shoot it. I went to Two Island Lake hoping that a bay that I often photograph would have started to go out. It did even though the rest of the lake was solid (we were about 10 to 14 days behind median ice out).
While I was taking photos, two loons started to call across the lake to each other. It’s so good to see open water, albeit a small amount, and to hear the calls of loons echoing.
